XLR8yourmac.com has posted the first benchmarks I've seen concerning the new graphics chipset. As shown below, the older Geforce 3 is indeed faster than the new Geforce4 MX. I'm a little disappointed in the marketing tact Apple and NVidia have taken here. Most customers will think the 4MX is an upgrade, when it is in fact a downgrade.

NVidia has at least 6 different GeForce4 lines at this point: GeForce4 Ti 4600 GeForce4 Ti 4400 GeForce4 Ti 4200 GeForce4 MX 460 GeForce4 MX 440 GeForce4 MX 420 In addition, there will be GeForce 4 440 Go and GeForce4 420 Go. Everyone is false advertising.not just Apple. And since the GeForce3 was never default, I don't think Apple is directly implying that the GeForce4 MX replaces that BTO option. Apple likely depleted their supply of GeForce3s in anticipation of the arrival of the GeForce4 Ti.

I guess I was misunderstanding the circumstances under which this new card was developed and released. I guess I'm not making the proper distinction between the GeForce 4MX and the as-yet(?) unreleased GeForce 4. I was under the impression NVidia has press plans for next week to unveil the latter. At any rate, I see no reason why the ATi 7500 AGP card shouldn't satisfy the vast majority of Mac gaming needs and at $100 less per card. Certainly it's a big step up from the Radeon, which is a big step up from my Rage Pro 128. Works for me.

He told me the specs says it can run in a Mac too. I checked it out, and it's true.
